Let me introduce myself. I am two minutes from being 30 and I have a 4 year old daughter, methinks this is the time one starts contemplating and reflecting on her life thus far. I have began to wonder am I the only single mother in johannesburg in her late 20's? I certainly dont hear our voices or is it one of those 'open secrets'.

There does seem to be a certain shame associated with having a child and not being married. Absurd right? we do live in 2009? Ha, it appears we have not evolved as much as we would like. There is still the misconception that you are indeed a slut, because no self respecting woman has a baby out of wedlock. The same contemporaries suddenly talk about safety etc when you stood with them at the clinics of the numerous abortions performed over the years, do I get an automatic moral foot up?.

Then there are the ladies who happen to fall pregnant and tell you that as a couple they were already discussing marriage. This reason is the most laughable, here stands an MBA educated (since that seems to be more prestigious *shrug*), independent and sassy but the only time she feels worthy is by having a man by her side...tends to boggle the brain. This amazing star then get knocked up (due to the rubber not working of course *wink*) and then harangues her better half for a proposal.

These are the different ways we all end up being in the same situation, motherhood. This is my blog though and want to write about single mother hood in this here concrete jungle.
